Internal investigation finds former cop violated conduct rules at party

NORTH PORT, Fla. -- An internal investigation by North Port Police has found that Melanie Turner did engage in conduct unbecoming of an officer and violated moral character rules for officers.

Turner reigned from the force last month after being accused of Sexual Battery and False Imprisonment during a party earlier this year.  The charges were later dropped.

A report released Friday however says that Turner "acted contrary to North Port Police Department's disciplinary standards; Conduct Unbecoming, Moral Character and Untruthfullness in an official Procedure."

Turner and Officer Ricky Urbina were accused of performing sexual acts on the host of a birthday party in March.  Urbina, who was on-duty when he visited the party, later committed suicide after learning charges were to be filed on him.

The report also says Officer Kishia Veigel, who was also at the party and witnessed the incident involving Turner, violated the department's Conduct Unbecoming standard.  She was suspended for two days without pay.

Officer Jeff Wilson was also at the party, but cleared of any wrongdoing as he was outside during the incident and did not witness the events.  He did notify a supervisor immediately after learning of what happened.

My name is Scott.
