VENICE - Investigators are trying to determine what caused a boat to catch fire off the coast of Venice.

The boat came back to the South Jetty in Venice with two of the three men still on it.

The Coast Guard got a distress call from the 22-foot cabin cruiser about ten miles offshore at about 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

A fire had broken out and burned one man seriously. Another boater passing by brought him back to shore.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials, Venice Police and the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office joined the coast guard in the rescue efforts.

The sheriff's office says the captain suffered only minor injuries. The other two went to the hospital, with their injuries not life-threatening.

The investigation is ongoing.
