SIESTA KEY, Fla. - A project that will bring more parking and new concessions and restrooms to Siesta Beach is underway.

The first phase of a two-year, $21 million project brings heavy construction equipment to the famous beach.

Heavy rains earlier this year set the project back some, so the county gave the construction manager permission to work on Saturdays through March 1st to catch up.

The majority of the work in Phase 1 includes installing underground conduit and preparing the park for future improvements.
