SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. - The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit, working in conjunction with the U. S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force, has captured a man who has been on the run since September to avoid arrest for a sex offense against a child.
Detectives obtained a warrant for 24-year-old Jose Martinez after the victim reported that Martinez forced her to perform sex acts on him when she was just six years old. Her younger sister, who witnessed this crime, also related the incident to detectives and a threat by Martinez to kill their dog if they told.
The Fugitive Apprehension Unit deputy who has been working the case for four months forwarded information to the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and they took Martinez into custody Tuesday.
He will be held without bond in Champaign, Illinois, until he can be brought to Sarasota County to face charges of Sexual Battery on a Child and Tampering with a Witness.
