SUNCOAST - The 36-hour Giving Challenge is well underway and is fast closing in on two million dollars.

The challenge is sponsored by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County in partnership with The Patterson Foundation.

It's a 36-hour, online giving event. All you have to do is go to the website and select one of 285 local non-profit organizations to make your donation. The event runs through 7pm Wednesday.

The non-profits are also eligible for additional grants and funds.

To make a gift, donors should go to www.GivingPartnerChallenge.org.

Donors select one or more of the participating organization, fill in a simple form, and make a secure online donation with a credit or debit card. Donors may also call the Education Foundation at 941-927-0965 before 7:00 p.m. March 6 to make a pledge that will be counted toward the final tally.

Last year's challenge raised $2.4 million for 110 area organizations. Over 200 Southwest Florida nonprofits are participating this year, including agencies in human services, animal welfare, conservation, health, the arts, and education. More than $645,000 in matching and incentive grants is available from Giving Challenge sponsors.
