CHARLOTTE COUNTY - Firefighters from around the area descended on the Rotonda Lakes neighborhood late Wednesday afternoon battling a large brush fire. The blaze ignited near Ingram Boulevard and David Boulevard, causing some residents to evacuate their homes.

Everyone is back in their homes and all the roads are open, and the fire is about 90% contained as of 10pm. A few hours before, it was a much different picture though. Firefighters had their hands full, due to the wind.

Firefighters from thirteen different agencies battled the blaze, coming from as far Collier County.

Time is of the essence. Flames continue to creep closer and closer to homes.

Some residents feel the need to evacuate.

“It was a small grass fire. The wind picked up and it got out of hand I guess,” said resident Bill Dougherty.

The wind was by far the biggest challenge, but nothing a bulldozer and some manpower couldn't handle. “A lot of close calls, but no structural damage. These firefighters did a great job protecting these homes,” said Dee Hawkins-Garland of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

In total, 70 acres burnt to a crisp, but with not a single injury to report.
