SARASOTA, Fla. -- Members of Sarasota's homeless committee met Thursday to get an update on steps being made to curb the problem.

Committee members discussed a homeless shelter project the county and city has been working on. The group reviewed potential locations for a new shelter throughout the county.

Recently, the city and county rejected three potential locations.

A shelter is just the first step in a 12-step plan homelessness expert Dr.Robert Marbut recommended.

The committee is now looking at new sites in unincorporated Sarasota County.

Sarasota may want to look at Jacksonville. They have had success working with the 100,000 Homes for the Homeless Campaign and an organization called Community Solutions.
