SARASOTA COUNTY:

Most Sarasota County government offices and services will be closed Monday, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, for the holiday. That includes libraries, the History Center, recreation centers, Arlington Pool, Payne Park and Knights Trail Park.

The Sarasota County Health Department, which is a state agency, also will be closed Dec. 24 and 25. While only Christmas Day is an official state holiday, Gov. Rick Scott has directed that state offices close Monday, Dec. 24, "in recognition and sincere thanks for the dedication of state employees in service to the citizens of Florida."

SCAT Bus Service

There will be no Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus service on Dec. 25. Regular bus service will operate on Dec. 24, with the following exception:

Route 99 (Palmetto): no trips at 4:15, 5:15, 5:45 or 7:15 p.m. from Lemon Avenue; or at 3:35 or 4:05 p.m. from Palmetto. The 2:35 p.m. departure will end at the DeSoto station.

Garbage Collection

Residents who live in unincorporated areas of the county will not have yard waste, recyclables or garbage collection on Dec. 25.

Residents whose regular collection days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday will have their collection day for yard waste, recyclables and garbage moved to the next day in the week.

For example, residents with a regular collection day of Tuesday will have their collection day on Wednesday; Wednesday's regular collection will take place on Thursday.

Because collection times vary, residents should place refuse materials at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of pickup.

Landfill/Chemical Collection Centers

Sarasota County's chemical collection centers at 8750 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, and 250 S. Jackson Road, Venice, will be closed Dec. 24 and 25.

The Citizen's Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road, Nokomis, will be closed Dec. 25.

All three centers will be open Dec. 26.

The landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road, Sarasota, will be closed Dec. 25, but will be open Dec. 26.

The landfill administration offices will be closed Dec. 24 and 25.

Sarasota County will pick up Christmas trees in the unincorporated county after the holiday. Residents can put trees at the curb for collection. They should put trash on one side of the driveway, and recycling, yard waste and Christmas trees on the other. Decorations and lights should be removed, and trees taller than 6 feet should be cut in half. The county will later mulch the trees.

There will be no collection in the unincorporated areas of the county on Christmas, Dec. 25, or New Year's Day, Jan 1. Monday collection on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 will be done as usual. Residents whose regular collection day is Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of the holiday week will have their garbage, yard waste, and recyclables collection delayed one day; normal Tuesday collection will move to Wednesday, Wednesday to Thursday, Thursday to Friday, and Friday to Saturday.

Sarasota County government offices and services will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1, for the New Year's holiday.

Closures include:

Libraries and parks, including Payne Park Tennis Center and Arlington Park pool.

Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) and Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) service will not be offered and administrative offices will be closed.

CITY OF SARASOTA:

City of Sarasota administration offices will be closed the following days during the 2012 holiday season:

· Monday, December 24 - in observance of Christmas Eve

· Tuesday, December 25 - in observance of Christmas Day

· Tuesday, January 1, 2013 - in observance of New Year’s Day

Weekly garbage and recycling collection will be impacted on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day only. Regular Tuesday collection will be picked up the following day on Wednesday, December 26 as well as Wednesday, January 2.

Bobby Jones Golf Club is open every day and will host the 5th Annual Reindeer Games on Christmas Day. The rate for 18 holes, with a riding cart plus a continental breakfast at Bobby’s Clubhouse Restaurant, is $29.50. Breakfast will be offered 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m. Walk-ins are welcome.

Lido Pool will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The Robert L. Taylor Community Complex will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day with holiday hours on the following days:

· Monday, December 24: 6 a.m. – 10 a.m.

· Monday, December 31: 6 a.m. – 10 a.m.

CITY OF VENICE:

Venice City Hall will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday. Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be collected as usual on Monday. There will be no collection on Tuesday. All items normally collected on Tuesday will be picked up Friday, Dec. 28.

Venice City Hall will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1 in observance of New Year's Day. There will be no garbage, recycling or yard waste collected. All items will be collected Friday, Jan. 4.

MANATEE COUNTY:

· County Government offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25;

· Garbage collection in unincorporated Manatee will be suspended on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Collections will be delayed one day the rest of the week: Tuesday collections will be on Wednesday, Wednesday collections will be on Thursday, etc.;

· All libraries will be closed Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25;

· G.T. Bray Recreation Center will be closed Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25, but the skate park will be open both days from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.;

· Manatee County and Buffalo Creek golf courses will be open for full play on Dec. 24 from 7 - 10 a.m.; then limited to 9-hole rounds from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pro Shops will close at 2 p.m. and as golfers complete their play that day, the courses will be closed until Dec. 26 when they reopen for full play. The courses will remain open throughout the New Year holiday;

· Fixed route and Handy Bus service will be suspended at 3 p.m. on Dec. 24. Anna Maria Island Trolley service will be suspended at 7 p.m. on Dec. 24. Only the Anna Maria Island Trolley and Beach Express will run on Christmas, Dec. 25. Normal MCAT service resumes Wed., Dec. 26.

New Year’s Day (Tuesday, Jan. 1)

· County Government offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1;

· All libraries will be closed Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1;

· G.T. Bray Recreation Center will be closed Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1. GT Bray Skate Park will be open both days from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.;

· Manatee County Area Transit buses will maintain normal service on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2. Only the Anna Maria Island Trolley and Beach Express will run on Jan. 1;

· Manatee’s two public golf courses will remain open for full play throughout the New Year holiday.

Other information

Manatee County Property Appraiser, Manatee Supervisor of Elections office and Manatee Clerk of the Circuit Court offices will be closed Dec. 24 – 25 and Dec. 31 - Jan. 1. Manatee County Tax Collector’s Office will be closed Dec. 21, Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. It will remain open Dec. 31 and will be closed Jan. 1.

Manatee County’s passive parks, beaches and preserves will remain open throughout the holidays.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY:

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Administrative Office and all four District Offices around the county will be closed for the long four-day Christmas holiday weekend. These offices will remain closed from Saturday through Tuesday and reopen Wednesday, Dec. 26 at 8 a.m.
