MYAKKA, Fla. - The Myakka City Historical Society partnered with the Lippizan Horses Sunday to raise money for the Old Myakka School House. Many enjoyed a 'taste of Myakka' with fried green tomatoes, gator bites and homemade ice cream. The white stallion horses that performed were bred for the Hapsburg Royal Family of Austria for use during wars dating back to the 16th Century. Currently the horses travel the country putting on shows, and some Suncoast residents had the opportunity to see that show on Sunday. President of the Myakka Historical Society, Marilyn Coker, said "I think that the library and the spaces that the school will provide for activities for the community are a much needed resource for us." An estimated $225,000 is still needed to complete the project.
