SARASOTA, Fla. - Florida high schools received their annual grades Wednesday, and it is all high marks for Suncoast schools.

All Sarasota County and Manatee County district high schools received either an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade from the Florida Department of Education.

For Manatee County, this marks the first time all seven district schools earned B’s or better. Four of the high schools earned A's: Southeast High, Manatee School for the Arts, Braden River High, and Lakewood Ranch High.

In Sarasota County, Pine View School and Suncoast Polytechnical High scored ‘A’ grades, with the other six schools getting ‘B’ grades.

The state grades its high schools based on student performance on tests, as well as graduation rates and other factors. Nearly half of Florida's high schools are getting an ‘A’ grade for the 2012-13 school year.

Those high grades show a slight increase, but the number of ‘D’ and ‘F’ rated schools also went up in Florida.
