SARASOTA COUNTY - The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office graduated another 22 people from the 40th class of the Citizens Law Enforcement Academy.
CLEA is held one night a week for 11 weeks and gives citizens an inside look at Sheriff’s Office operations. The course includes sessions on jail operations, courthouse security, criminal investigations, SWAT and Forensics.
There are demonstrations by K9 and Mounted Patrol and activities such as how to conduct felony traffic stops, firearms training and a ride-along with a deputy on patrol.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has conducted CLEA twice a year for the past 20 years with some 800 citizens graduating. The next class scheduled for spring 2014 is full, but applications are being accepted for the fall session which will begin in August.
