OSPREY, Fla.- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted sexual battery involving a young girl.

Around 3:00 Monday afternoon, the girl was dropped off at her bus stop near Church Street and U.S. 41.  On her walk home, near Washington and Oak Street in Osprey, the victim reported an older man pulled her into a wooded ditch and attempted to sexually batter her.  The girl then punched and scratched the man before she fled.

The suspect left the area driving an older, solid red pickup truck with a dent near the right window.  He's described as having gray hair or balding, 5'4", 180 lbs, and wearing a gray t-shirt and plaid boxer shorts.

Any person with information should contact the Sarasota Sheriff's Office at (941) 861-4260 or Crime Stoppers at (941) 366-TIPS.

I find it a bit ridiculous that most all news outlets defer mentioning if the suspect was black, white, yellow or green. In this instance they refer to him as a 'older man'.

I mean they could seriously narrow down the suspect pool if they literally provided black and white details. All this political correctness is a bit absurd and adding this information could better help catch this predator.

I hope they catch this predator none the less and I'm proud of this young girl in defending herself.
