MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - Friends and family gathered Wednesday to remember an active member of the community in Lakewood Ranch.

83-year-old Donald Mader and his wife Joyce were on a Friday morning bike ride when a young woman ran a red light. 22-year-old Lindsey Damery’s car collided with both riders, injuring Donald and Joyce. Donald later died from his injuries.

His friends say they will never forget Donald. “He was always cheerful and happy. We have known Don and Joyce for probably 15 years, and there was never a time when they weren't outgoing, bubbly and happy,” said Paul Buskey.

The couple had planned to embark on a cruise to England later this month and go to their granddaughter’s wedding in June.

Instead, Wednesday the grandchildren gathered to see the happy and outgoing Donald laid to rest.
