MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Plans to reconfigure a busy interchange along University Parkway have hit a road block.

A Manatee County government spokesman confirms Florida lawmakers have deleted funding for the I-75 interchange at University Parkway.

Manatee and Sarasota counties are working with the Florida Department of Transportation to improve the interchange before the World Rowing Championships come to nearby Benderson Park in 2017. Plans call for an intersection call a diverging diamond, in which traffic lanes briefly switch sides for better access to the interstate.

But this week, state lawmakers nixed millions of dollars that would have helped the project go forward.

State transportation planners will now try to find that funding somewhere else.

Just saw footage of traffic at 75 and university. You should take the video around 3:30 to 6 : when it is bumper to bumper on university at the entrances onto 75. . Your video show s traffic moving and no congestion. Can t imagine what this will look like when the mall opens!
