SARASOTA - Governor Rick Scott may have vetoed $368 million from the budget, but most of the projects in this area didn't get axed.

The Governor approved $5 million for Nathan Benderson Park, as it tries to lure in the World Rowing Championships in 2017.

"This means they are supportive on a higher level, and we will be able to support these rowing championships. With that type of investment, it definitely helps us with the bid," said Paul Blackketter with Benderson Park.

In Bradenton, IMG Acadamy will receive $2.3 million from Tallahassee. The money will be used to build better facilities and allow officials to go after international events and bring them to the area.

"It's going to be a tremendous help," said Chip McCarthy with the Academy. "We have proven again and again that we know what we are doing. This is going to be a great investment for the state of Florida."

Funding will also be provided from the state to renourish Venice Beach and Anna Maria Island Beach. The two beaches suffered major erosion from Tropical Storm Debby.

The only real loser in this year's budget is the Philippi Creek Septic Sewer Replacement Program. Sarasota County officials were asking for $438 thousand, but the Governor vetoed it. County officials say the project is about 55% done, and they will complete it with or without the money.
