7 fun things to do this weekend on and around the Suncoast

(WWSB) -- Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Check out these great options all weekend at different locations around the Suncoast.

1. Embracing our Differences Exhibit (April 1-May 31)

It is the 14th year this exhibit has come to Island Park. There will be 45 billboard-sized works of art on display. It's an annual outdoor public art exhibition with each art piece accompanied by an inspirational quote. Students from 204 schools from 115 countries around the world and 48 states submitted artwork or quotes to the juried exhibit.

2. Gem, Jewelry and Bead Show (May 19-May 21) 

Interested in beading or making fun jewelry? Then head to the Gem, Jewelry and Bead Show this weekend. Displays will include gems, jewelry, beads, crystals and more. Admission for adults is $4 and the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium.

3. SUP & Run 5K race (May 20)

Want to race against some great runners and paddle boarders? Then get in gear for the SUP & Run 5K. You may choose to run, paddle or both in the 5K Run, 5K SUP & Run or 5K SUP. Shirts, custom finisher medals, great prizes and a post race party with food will conclude the event. There will be pulled pork BBQ, PDQ, Smoothie King, Jay's Hot Dog's and more. All races start at 8 a.m. at Nathan Benderson Park.

4. Siesta Volleyball Tournament (May 20-May 21)

Come on out for the Dig The Beach - Siesta Key Volley Ball Classic this weekend. Have fun in the sun and sand while watching some great volleyball. Check in is at 7:30 a.m. and the competition will start at 8 a.m. Free spectator admission.

5. St. Armand's Seafood and Music Festival (May 20-May 21)

It's the inaugural St. Armand's Seafood and Music Festival taking place in St. Armand's Circle Park featuring seafood prepared fresh on site along with drinks. Enjoy great food while listening to live musical performances on stage by some of Florida’s and the region’s top musical talents. There will also be a marketplace of arts and crafts. While at the event, the Humane Society will have their mobile adoption center onsite. there will be free general admission. VIP tent admission is $50. Hours on Saturday and Sunday will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

6. Bob's Birthday Bash (May 21)

You're invited to community radio station WSLR's hosting of Bob's Birthday Bash to celebrate the birthday of musician and Nobel Prize winner, Bob Dylan. Multiple bands will pay tribute. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 the day of show. The event starts at 6 p.m. in the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, located at 525 Kumquat Court in Sarasota.

7. Diverging diamond grand opening (May 21)

Coming Sunday morning, the diverging diamond will be ready for drivers to test out. The diverging diamond includes five westbound lanes and five eastbound lanes. Westbound traffic shifts from the north side of University Parkway to the south side and Eastbound traffic shifts form the south side of University Parkway to the north side.
