SARASOTA, FL - The City of Sarasota and Florida Power & Light are partnering again this year for the Home Energy Makeover Initiative (HEMI) to provide free energy saving home makeovers to 50 homeowners.  Neighborhoods eligible for the program this year are: Alta Vista, Arlington Park and Bellevue Terrace neighborhoods.  “The inaugural event last year in North Sarasota was a big success,” said Environmental Specialist Alison Albee.  “We’re looking forward to having the same success in Alta Vista, Arlington Park and Bellevue Terrace and helping qualified homeowners make their homes more energy efficient.”

Description: Low_Rez_01HEMI is a free program for individuals who live in a house which they own and want to reduce their energy bills. As part of the makeover, homeowners will receive energy reduction tips while teams from the City of Sarasota and FPL install selected energy saving items, as needed, including insulation, air conditioning filters, refrigerator thermometers, energy efficient light bulbs, water saving showerheads as well as duct repair.

The home makeovers will take place Thursday, November 8.  To qualify, the home must be owner occupied, a registration form must be completed and the owner must be home at their designated appointment time.  The 50 residences will be selected on a first come first serve basis.  Completed applications must be returned by the end of business Friday, October 12, 2012.  Click here to download an application.

The HEMI program was launched last year with 50 homes in North Sarasota receiving makeovers.   The HEMI program is part of the Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Energy Sustainability Agreement established in concert with a 30 year franchise agreement between the City of Sarasota and FPL.  A total of 1,500 home energy makeovers will be conducted during the term of the agreement with the intent to implement the initiative in phases throughout the City.
