VENICE, FL. – Four people were rescued off the coast of Venice after the boat they were in began to take on water.

The Venice Fire Department’s rescue boat was launched Thursday around 9 p.m. to assist the United States Coast Guard in the search for a vessel in distress about 1 mile off the coast.

A distress signal was sent from a 26-foot boat when it had motor failure and began taking on water.

Venice fire-medics helped remove the 4 people from the boat shortly before it sank.

There were no injuries.
