MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Construction on the much-anticipated Fort Hamer Bridge is expected to get underway as soon as next year.

According to the Bradenton Herald, the project manager said on Monday that he hopes to advertise bidding for the work as soon as October.

Building the bridge is expected to take roughly two years to complete. Manatee County Public Works received final regulatory approval from the Coast Guard and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers last week.

The bridge will connect Upper Manatee River Road on the south and Fort Hamer Road on the north.

The two-lane bridge will cost $20 million to complete.
