SARASOTA, Fla. -- Eniel Polynice became a Suncoast star in basketball because coaches and mentors showed him how to play basketball, and how to carry himself. Now Polynice is trying to give that coaching to others.

Eniel Polynice won a state basketball title at Booker High School before heading off to Ole Miss to play Division 1 basketball. He is now a pro in the Argentinian League, but he has come home to put on his annual camp at the Boys and Girls Club in Sarasota.

"I'm just trying to instill in them to get off the couch, and stop playing video games. Do something positive. Continue learning from someone who has been through what they are going through."

An honor student while becoming the first of his family to graduate high school, Polynice has the camp to coach basketball, but he also wants to get another message across to the kids. “We are just trying to get the kids to do something positive. Giving back to the community is something I have always wanted to do, and this is my way of giving back."

The camp runs this Saturday and Sunday at the Boys & Girls Club on Fruitville Road.

Eniel wants to pay it forward for the youth of today because he had someone do that for him as a youngster. "The coach that had the biggest impact on me, he was a very, big positive influence on my life. He guided me towards the right way to success in my life."

There will be several former college basketball players there to coach, including the coach who meant so much to Eniel: Derrick Kirce. "Derrick Kirce will definitely be there. I like to do things hands on myself. My number is 941-544-3924. Contact me for camp. I am here in town."
