SARASOTA - A former Sarasota police officer will not be charged in the aftermath of a violent arrest.

The State Attorney's Office deciding to not file battery charges against Scott Patrick.

The investigation is based on an August arrest of Jason Dragash at Ivory Lounge, a downtown Sarasota nightclub.

His arrest, and the use of force by Patrick, was all caught on a security camera at the club.

After an Internal Affairs investigation, Patrick was fired from the force, but prosecutors say they could not prove that Patrick's use of force during the arrest was not justified, based on Dragash's size, strength and intoxication level.

Attorneys for Dragash intend to sue the Sarasota Police Department.
