BRADENTON, Fla. -- The former star quarterback of Manatee High was in court Thursday. 18-year-old Josh Meyer pleaded no contest to Lewd and Lascivious Battery.

Meyer's lawyer tells the Herald-Tribune that the only reason they pleaded no contest was because the girl was 15 when sexual contact occurred, which is illegal.

Back in April, the sheriff's office arrested Meyer, who was 17 at the time. He was accused of taking a 15-year-old girl into a bathroom at an off-campus party where alcohol was served, and performing sex acts against her will.

Meyer left Manatee High after being arrested.

He will serve one year of probation.
