ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WTXL) Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration has filed suit to gain access to VA hospitals in the state.

The lawsuit was announced as part of an effort to allow state inspectors to examine hospitals in the state run by the VA.

The AHCA made several unannounced visits to VA hospitals in Florida, seeking to inspect the hospitals.  But each time, the inspectors were turned away, and the VA wrote letters asserting that the hospitals are not bound by state law.

AHCA asserts that the VA has repeatedly failed to comply with minimum standards of patient safety in VA hospitals within the State of Florida.
