SARASOTA, Fla. -- Florida's top high school aged rowing crews are competing this weekend at Nathan Benderson Park, Sarasota, FL.

The competition runs from 8 am to 5:30 pm Saturday and from 8 am to 5 pm Sunday with finals expected around 10 am Sunday.

Event coordinator Sarah Kupiec estimates 1,800 athletes and 43 schools in competition this weekend with another 8,000 and 10,000 spectators cheering them on. On top of that are roughly 180 volunteers under the direction of John Krotec.

At Nathan Benderson Park, there are grandstands, an air-conditioned hospitality tent (including a nice section just for volunteers), picnic tables and even two jumbotron monitor walls to follow the action from camera stations perched upon high up platforms.

There's no shortage of  vendors in “Vendor Village," selling everything from t-shirts to food and even a rock climbing wall.

Team trophies are given out at the end of each day and winners at this weekend's event could continue on to Nationals in May and June.

The event and the parking are free. If you'd like to help out and volunteer, contact John Krotec at row.volunteer@gmail.com
