SARASOTA, Fla. - We already have some of the first babies of 2014 here in Sarasota.

Jesse Garci and Heather Patty are the parents of Javier, who is just a few hours old. He was the second baby born in Sarasota, and the first at the Rosemary Birthing Home.

They chose to have him at the birthing center, saying it is a more natural and hands on experience than the hospital.

Heather waited over nine months and has advice for expecting mothers. “Babies definitely take their own time. He was due 12 days ago, and he picked today.”

She says you have to trust the baby will come when ready.

At Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, the first baby of 2014 born there was Amelia Marlae, born to Brianna Ferguson.

Sarasota Memorial delivered their first baby around 7am, but the parents requested privacy for the baby.
