First Alert Weather: Waterspout off City Island reported Wednesday morning

SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - A bit before 9am Wednesday morning an unwarned waterspout formed in Sarasota Bay. ABC7 Titan radar picked up this echo of the cell as it moved on shore.

The rotation in the cell produced a radar signature called shear that is visible as the series of small dots below.

The actual video of the waterspout was recorded by Tanya Keith:

As well as Lisa Mena:

And Marco Solorzano captured it off Lido Key:

Florida weather is a leader in waterspout production and they often can spin down with little or no notice. If they move over land they are reclassified as a tornado.

In our highly sheared atmosphere waterspouts will be possible Wednesday.
