MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The owners of a treehouse on Holmes Beach, that were told to bring the structure up to code or face daily fines, won't have to pay -- at least for now.
A circuit judge issued an opinion earlier this year that the city should hold off on fines while an appeal moves through the courts.
According to the Islander newspaper, last week, the city decided to follow the judge’s opinion and cancel the $100 a day fine.
Owners Richard Hazen and Lynn Tran have been fighting with the city about the tree house since last year. The couple says a former code enforcement officer gave them a verbal approval when it was being built.
