OSPREY – Sunday, November 24 was the final day of running for the Fall Edition of The Real Florida Run Series. The Series included eight races across the Southern region of Florida.
It's part of a continued effort to get Floridians more active in state parks. On Sunday, runners had their choice in participating in either a 5k or 10k run/walk. The event began at 9 a.m in Oscar Scherer State Park. Arielle Poulos, an Environmental Specialist, said "we want to get people out into the real Florida...and where else can you do that besides our state parks?"
An awards ceremony was held after the run to recognize runners in various age groups. Participants received one free family pass to a state park, as well as an official Real Florida Run Series T-Shirt.
The proceeds from the benefit are going to the non-profit organization Friends of the State Parks. The Series is a bi-annual event that Poulos says she hopes will continue forever.
