MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - A New Jersey man died Monday when troopers say he suffered a medical event while driving on State Road 70 in eastern Manatee County.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 63-year-old Arthur Dunne of Middletown, New Jersey was driving an SUV eastbound on State Road 70 near the entrance to Panther Ridge at 197th Street East just after 11am Monday.

That's when they say he suffered an unknown medical event, causing the SUV to drift across the center lane.  The SUV's passenger attempted to take control of the vehicle, but was unable to.

The SUV collided with a westbound minivan, whose driver had attempted to avoid the SUV.

Dunne was taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.  The SUV's passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to Blake Medical Center.

The minivan's driver suffered minor injuries.
