SARASOTA - Rush hour traffic on U.S. 41 was at a stand-still Tuesday morning after a three-vehicle wreck sent one Venice woman to the hospital.

It happened around 8:07am near the intersection with Doud Street, a little north or Sarasota Square Mall.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV driven by 61-year-old Christine Oliver of Venice was headed northbound on U.S. 41 when the driver blacked out.  Her foot pressed down on the accelerator, causing the SUV to strike a car in the median.

The SUV continued across the median and hit the rear wheels of a southbound tractor trailer.  That caused the rear axle to detach from the trailer, which cross the median and came to a rest in the northbound lanes.

Oliver had to be extricated from her SUV and airlifted to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The other two drivers were uninjured.

No charges have been filed.

I keep seeing this story - and even that it was updated. Didn't this happen on Tuesday morning, not Monday morning?
