MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Several upgrades and additions could be coming to part of a thoroughfare between Sarasota and Bradenton.

301 Boulevard East and 15th Street East stretches from U.S. 41 near DeSoto Square Mall to University Parkway near the airport.

The Herald-Tribune reports that Florida Department of Transportation may do a lot of work to the 4.5 mile stretch between U.S. and Tellavast Road. That work could include widening the road from its current two lanes so there would also be a center lane. Also, adding bike lanes and sidewalks, and converting some intersections into roundabouts.

An engineering and design study budgeted at roughly $8 million could be finished by next spring.

Bee Ridge Road has 72 street lamp posts in the middle of the sidewalk which cause many of the bicycle accidents. I am a blinded veteran who has been fighting with FDOT for over ten years about relocating the posts off the sidewalk. The FDOT does not care about Pedestrian Safety. They only care about money.

When a Florida Pedestrian is killed Government Officials clang their Tea Party Cups in celebration... "Cheers to one less Tax Burden and more money for us! Yea!"
