SARASOTA, Fla. -- There are some chilling new details regarding the FBI's investigation into a Sarasota Saudi family who left their home just weeks before 9/11.

The FBI has released even more documents to the Broward Bulldog online newspaper in its fight to gather information about that family.

In the documents on the Saudi family with many connections to the 9/11 hijackers, the FBI tells a chilling story of a man who owned a storage unit in Bradenton.

A month and a half after the 9/11 attacks, the man was observed throwing away documents in a dumpster behind his storage unit in Manatee County. The man, whose name is redacted -- along with many other important details -- was eventually interviewed by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

It was revealed that the items thrown out included:

  • a manual on terrorism and jihad
  • a map of an unnamed airport
  • a last will and testament form
  • a weight to fuel ratio calculation for an aircraft
  • flight training information from the flight school in Venice where two of the 9/11 hijackers trained
  • printed maps of Publix stores in the Tampa Bay area

“How it relates to the family in Sarasota is what's not made clear from the documents. I think we can presume that, since it's in the same document that makes specific reference to the family,” says Thomas Julin, attorney for the Broward Bulldog.

The documents were not known by the public to exist, until the Broward Bulldog got involved. “As the lawsuit has progressed, we are finding more and more information that the FBI has had documents that it initially denied that they had at all.”

The rest of those documents are now being reviewed by a federal court judge to determine what should be made public.

A spokesperson for the Manatee County Sheriff's Office tells ABC 7 that the case was immediately turned over to the FBI, and they have very few details on the individual.
