SARASOTA - An apparently out of control sanitation truck collided with another vehicle and rolled over in the median of Interstate 75 Thursday morning, killing the driver.

The crash happened in the southbound lanes shortly before 10am a short distance past the Bee Ridge Road exit (#207).

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a sanitation truck from Southern Sanitary was traveling in the outside southbound lane when for unknown reasons, the truck veered to the left across all three lanes and into the median, colliding with another vehicle along the way.

In the median, the truck collided with the cable barrier and overturned, pinning the driver, 42-year-old Patrick Harrel of Sarasota,  underneath.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Passenger Fredi Estrada-Bustos suffered minor injuries and was transported to Doctor's Hospital.

The other vehicle also overturned in the median.  The driver of that truck, 24-year-old Robert Richterkessing of Kissimmee, was not injured.

No charges have been filed.

There are too many wrecks and fatalities on I-75. It's getting rediculous. I've noticed people in this state prefer to pass on the right on the interstates too... what's that about?
