NORTH PORT, Fla. -- North Port Police have determined the death of 27-year-old Christopher Hays to be a justifiable homicide, and police say the case is now closed.

Investigators say that just after midnight on the morning of March 1st, Hays kicked the door open at a home on Deming Avenue and that he intended to commit battery on the people inside that home, which included a couple and a child.

Hays was shot and killed in the doorway by a man in the home.

The female in the home told investigators that she had recently broken off a relationship with Hays due to his aggression and trust issues.

Investigations by both the North Port Police and Florida Department of Law Enforcement found the shooting to be a justifiable homicide.
