SARASOTA - A fatal crash involving a motorcyclist shut down portions of a Sarasota intersection Monday.
It happened around 3 p.m. at Bee Ridge and Tuttle avenue.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Micheal Hicks of Sarasota was traveling north on Swift Road on a motorcycle approaching the intersection of Bee Ridge Road.
33-year-old James McFarland of Sarasota was traveling south on Tuttle Avenue in the left turn lane approaching the intersection of Bee Ridge Road.
According to witnesses, Hicks proceeded through the intersection as the traffic signal turned red. The front of the motorcycle struck the right side of McFarland's Dodge Dakota.
Hicks was airlifted to Blake Medical Center, where he died of his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
McFarland and his passenger in the Dakota, 38-year-old Shalia Parmalee, were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with minor.
