SARASOTA, Fla. -- The weekend's almost here, and it’s a perfect time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. And this week’s Event of the Week is an outdoor event that might be just what you're looking for.

Saturday night, the Sarasota Orchestra is going to step outside the concert hall and onto a stage on the baseball field at Ed Smith Stadium for what the Baltimore Orioles call Arts in the Ballpark.

"It's our demonstration that we're part of this community on a year-round basis, and who better to partner with than the Sarasota Orchestra?" says David Rovine, vice-president of Baltimore Orioles Sarasota.

The stage set up will be similar to the way the ice show was set up at Ed Smith in December. “We have a professional stage being built on the third base side actually on the field. The fans will sit on the 3rd base side in reserved seats."

16-year-old phenom Maria Wirriers will start the show. "I'm going to be singing with the orchestra. I will be singing ‘Colors of the Wind’ as well as the National Anthem."

And she believes this concert in the ballpark may win new fans for the orchestra. "I think this is going to be a wonderful opportunity to get people out of the concert hall.”

Sarasota Orchestra principal trombone player Brad Williams is also looking forward to getting out of the concert hall. "I am super excited to play outside. I get my trombone and come outside as often as I can. I love the acoustics, I love the fresh air, I love hearing the birds and seeing the butterflies."

He expects this concert to attract a lot more kids than usually attend Sarasota Orchestra concerts. "I am going to bring my trombone and walk around to all the kids out there and show them what it is and how to play it."

The program is called "Spirit of America"...music the whole family loves. "We have Star Wars, Sing Sing Sing, Chicago, Pocahontas, a lot of Disney music will be on the program."

Also on the program: 5-time Grammy nominee Molly Cherryholmes. “She is a fantastic fiddler and singer; she does both extremely well…she is fantastic. Can't wait to have her with us."

ABC 7’s Scott Dennis will even narrate "Casey at the Bat.”

And the concert will end with a bang, as fireworks will light up the sky.

The Sarasota Orchestra presents Spirit of America Saturday night at 7pm at Ed Smith Stadium on 12th Street in Sarasota.
