SARASOTA - A group of downtown Sarasota merchants wanted to do something to celebrate Father's Day, and they decided there’s nothing dad would like better than to stroll around with the family and look at fabulous cars. So they created “Fathers and Fenders”.
"On Mother’s Day you take mom out to breakfast, you take her to brunch; and Father’s Day you take him fishing, you take him to an antique car show,” says Ron Soto, president of the Downtown Merchants Association.
It's free and fun for the whole family. "We live in beautiful Florida…it's a great place for beautiful cars and it’s a great place to bond with your parents, especially your father. Cars are a great tie between a son and a father," says Timothy Beury of Medical Resources Associates.
There will be antique cars to bring back memories. "Let dad go ahead and redo his youth a bit. If you are a dad you want to bring your son out and show him the cars you used to drive, and if you're an adult, bring your older dad out and let him redo his youth."
Fathers and Fenders is Sunday from 10am to 3pm in downtown Sarasota around Five Points, the intersection of Main Street and Pineapple Avenue.
