SARASOTA, FL- All Faiths Food Bank and the Sarasota County School District have partnered to provide food for students and their families during the summer by enhance existing programs and introducing new ones.

Following the success of All Faiths Food Bank’s Campaign Against Summer Hunger, the School District, with support from Food Bank will expand its served meal programs called "Break Spots" to more than 45 locations. All Faiths Food Bank is also scheduling 9 new mobile pantry stops, implementing its first ever summer BackPack Kids program, and increasing capacity at established food distribution sites and at its Sprout Mobile Farm Market. All Faiths Food Bank also received a grant from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation to purchase a new truck to handle the growing need for food distribution in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties.

The Campaign Against Summer Hunger exceeded expectations, raising $1.1 million, and more than 776,000 pounds of food, to help feed the 21,000 Sarasota County students (50 percent) on free and reduced meals. During the summer, when school is out, those kids face hunger more than any other time of the year. Weeks of strategic planning went into the new and enhanced food assistance programs, including working with schools and Food Bank distribution partners to schedule mobile pantries, meals and backpacks in areas with the highest need.

"The success of the campaign has allowed us to substantially increase the amount and number of programs that feed children over the summer," said Sandra Frank. "We are thrilled at the outpouring of support from such a caring and compassionate community."
