Englewood, FL- An Englewood woman who was initially charged with domestic battery faces addition charges when she was found concealing a baggie containing a number of pills at the Charlotte County Jail Monday evening.

Deputies were initially called to 8319 Parkside Drive in Englewood shortly before 10:00 pm October 28 in response to a report of a previous incident of battery.  The victim said that his landlord, Jean Elaine Leveque, 67, of that address, had forced her way into his room and began hitting him while demanding he leave the residence.  Based upon the victim’s physical injuries and statement, Leveque was placed under arrest on a misdemeanor battery charge.

When the deputy and Leveque arrived at the Charlotte County Jail, a female corrections officer was speaking with Leveque to begin the booking process.  According to standard procedure, the corrections officer asked Leveque if she had any illegal contraband or weapons on her.  Leveque said she did not.

According to the report, as Leveque was being escorted to the intake area, she suddenly turned toward the corrections deputy and grabbed her.  Other intake officers came to assist the first deputy and control Leveque.  After they gained control, the female officer found a small plastic baggie containing a total of 82 pills concealed in Leveque’s bra.  The pills were determined to be Lunesta SH4, a Schedule 4 controlled substance.

Leveque was charged with the original domestic battery, Battery on a Corrections Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Introduction of Contraband into a County Detention Facility.  She was being held without bond.
