Elederly woman dies after SUV rollover on I-75

NORTH PORT, FL. - A woman has died after an SUV rollover crash on I-75.

It happened Wednesday in North Port near Mile Marker 173 just after 10:30 am.

77-year-old Irene Anderson of Ft. Myers Beach traveling southbound on I-75 on the outside lane. For unknown reasons, she started to drift into the inside left lane which was occupied by another vehicle.

She over-corrected by steering hard to the right, causing the vehicle to go off the roadway onto the west grass shoulder. She attempted to

steer back onto the roadway crossing both lanes of southbound I-75, and then entering into the grass median.

The vehicle overturned several times before coming to final rest on its roof.

Anderson was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

Florida Highway Patrol was on scene of the crash and closed down the left southbound lane as they investigated. Traffic was backed up for miles.
