MANATEE COUNTY - Quick thinking is being credited with saving a motorist's life after a semi-truck smashed into the side of a car.

It happened Friday just before 8 a.m. at the corner of U.S. 41 and Tallevast Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the semi-truck driver, 23-year-old Andrew Duchene, attempted to make a right turn on Tallevast, but cut in front of a Nissan Sentra driven by 50-year-old Wayne Reid, crushing the driver’s side. Reid quickly leaned into the passenger seat. He was taken to Manatee Memorial with minor injuries.

Duchene was charged with making an improper right turn.
