SARASOTA, FL-- A drive-by shooting in a quiet Southgate community has neighbors on edge. Sarasota County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a disturbance call around ten o'clock Tuesday night. They discovered bullet holes on the outside of a house on Tulip Street. Now, they're looking for those responsible.
Here's how neighbors describe Tulip Street. “It's mostly a working class neighborhood, and older people mostly, and it's very quiet and pleasant, it's normally very secure. Now, I’m going to be a little weary for a while,” neighbor. Too concerned to show their faces on camera, neighbors say what happened here Tuesday night is shocking. “While i was in the living room watching TV, and then all of a sudden i heard three or four loud shots and I’m pretty sure it was a shot gun and of course the vehicle sped off.”
According to a report from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, several resident's were inside this home on Tulip Street when someone knocked on the front door, but didn't answer it. A few minutes later, they heard gunshots and saw a red four door sedan speed off. “They heard a car speed away, police came, and an area was cornered off while they searched the ground,” neighbor.
Neighbors say deputies arrived shortly after... “They were searching the lawn possibly for shell casings, they were looking at the house to see if there was any damage done and they were probably there for at least two hours.” And while they never thought a drive-by shooting would happen in their neighborhood, now that it is, neighbors say they worry it may happen again. “I'm not scared, but it could happen again. No neighborhood is safe right now because you never know who's driving through.”
Once again-- the vehicle seen shortly after the gunshots were fired is a red, four door sedan. Deputies say witnesses reported seeing three people in the vehicle. If you have any information, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 941-366-TIPS.
