SARASOTA - If you take your dog to Payne Park in the future, you may have to use a leash. At a meeting Tuesday, Sarasota city commissioners decided to move forward with a leash law at the park.

Dogs are already required to wear leashes at several other city parks, but not at Payne.

This new rule would not only require leashes, but also prohibit dogs from the park's playground area.

However, city leaders are considering a compromise. They proposed constructing a new dog park on a piece of nearby vacant city property on Ringling Boulevard, where the old police station once stood.
