SARASOTA, Fla. -- An alligator that was deputies say was hit by a car was removed by a Sarasota County Sheriff's deputy early Monday morning.

A photo posted to the sheriff's office's Facebook page shows resident gator wrangler Dep. Blake Luce on top of the gator.

He took the 8 and 1/2 foot aligator "into custody" at 1:30am after it had been hit by a car on Richardson Road, just west of Cattlemen.

The alligator was removed from the scene by a state licensed trapper.
