SARASOTA -- A Sarasota County deputy says she had to shoot at a woman who tried to run her down in her car at Bent Tree Golf Club.

"The car was racing around on the golf course," said Douglas Mochrie, the club professional at the Bent Tree Golf Club in Sarasota, where the police-involved shooting occurred.

"A woman was here... She had some kind of incident with a police officer, and then to my knowledge – what I was told – a gun had been fired," Mochrie said.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office report, police were responding to a burglar alarm when they found 23-year-old Kimberly Tomchinsky at the location. After allegedly failing to respond to deputies' commands, Tomchinsky reportedly began driving at the deputy, who responded by firing at the vehicle before Tomchinsky fled the area. Deputies were later able to immobilize the vehicle and take Tomchinsky into custody.

“She's been having problems with K2,” said  G. Tomchinsky– Kimberly's aunt.

G. Tomchinsky says her niece has a history of using K2 spice – a type of synthetic marijuana – and believes Kimberly was on it at the time of the incident.

“In (Kimberly's) case, K2 puts her in a hyper-manic state... where (she's) happy,” G. Tomchinsky said.

But that's just part of the side effects.

“She becomes completely delusional,” G. Tomchinsky added. “She has looked for flying saucer, hears radio waves, see things, hears things.”

In addition, the Tomchinsky's say Kimberly has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and that she was released from rehab on Wednesday.

As of Saturday night, Kimberly Tomchinsky was being held in a county jail. She faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude and obstruction. The Sarasota County Sheriff's office says the deputy has been placed on administrative leave, which is a procedural measure.

Oh wow...I think she was on it as well on Friday night. Myself and a couple friends were at Ivory Lounge downtown for someones birthday and she was there in the rear of the dance floor in her own little state. Was clearly out of it.

I actually feel pretty awful for her. Mental disorders are no joke and its a hard thing to suffer when you have it. I'm sure she takes the K2 to escape her own reality. So sad. I just hope this incident gets her better help. Rehab doesn't solve the problem, it merely removes you from it temporarily. I hope her family rallies around her and decides to try to keep a strong eye on her activities so she doesn't end up actually shot next time.
