SARASOTA, Fla. - An early morning shootout along U.S. 301 in North Sarasota sent two people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, deputies say.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, deputies say they heard shots fired in the North Sarasota area just after 4am Saturday morning.  A caller to 911 soon reported two vehicles headed northbound on U.S. 301 just past Myrtle Street exchanging gunfire.

The vehicles were described as a black Dodge and a black SUV.

Soon after the call, a black Dodge with bullet holes pulled into the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store on 301 and Tallevast Road requesting a call to 911.

Two people in the car were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment.
