SARASOTA - Two Sarasota residents with a long criminal history have been arrested and charged with Grand Theft, giving them a combined 86 local arrests.

Deputies say 48-year-old Cynthia Turner and 46-year-old Daryl Thomas stole several hundreds of dollars worth of clothing from a Marshall's store on January 22nd.  Surveillance video shows two people concealing clothing in bags and leaving without paying for it.

A loss prevention officer from the store followed the two into the parking lot and attempted to stop them, but the man fled and the woman pushed the man and walked away.

Three law enforcement officers later identified Turner from the surveillance images, having recognized her from previous incidents.

Turner was arrested Thursday at her Kensington Park home, and Thomas was taken in for questioning and later arrested.

Turner and Thomas have criminal histories more than two decades long that combine for a contemptible 86 local arrests. Turner has been arrested 24 times for retail theft and robbery charges, and was jailed another 29 times for violating probation or contempt of court. Thomas has 17 arrests for violent crimes and drug charges and was jailed another 16 times for violating probation or contempt of court.

Despite their histories, Thomas has only been sentenced to prison once, for five months; and Turner was sentenced to prison three times, for less than two years total.

Both suspects are now charged with Grand Theft and Resisting a Retail Merchant. Turner is being held on $15,000 bond while Thomas is being held on $1,500 bond.
