Deputies: Man steals items from Wal-Mart, threatens to shoot employee

MANATEE COUNTY, FL. - Authorities have arrested a man who is accused of stealing merchandise from Wal-Mart and threatening an employee of the store.

It happened Monday around 3:30 am at the Wal-Mart located at 8320 Lockwood Ridge Road.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Fred Jones entered Wal-Mart and began putting merchandise in a garbage can inside his shopping cart. He then fled the store with the merchandise without paying.

An employee of Wal-Mart followed Jones to his vehicle and confronted him. He told the employee, "If you put a hand on me, I'll shoot you." The employee as in fear for his life and let the suspect go.

Jones fled in his vehicle into Sarasota County. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office initiated a pursuit on the vehicle for unrelated charges. A P.I.T. maneuver was executed and the pursuit was terminated. Jones was arrested at the scene.

The merchandise was found in the vehicle. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office was notified and arrived at the scene. The stolen property from Wal-Mart was valued at $513.54.

No one was injured during the incident. The suspect also had an outstanding felony warrant.
