SARASOTA, FL. - The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Sarasota man for trying to rob one bank and then robbing a second bank.

Arrested was 29-year-old Robert David Johnson.

According to the Sarasota County sheriff's Office, a call came in Wednesday around 10:45 a.m., at the Liberty Savings Bank on Stickney Point Road in Sarasota. An employee at the bank saw a man wearing gloves, put a ski mask over his face and pull a hoodie over his head as he approached the door. That employee locked the doors and the suspect ran off when he could not gain access.

As deputies were searching for the suspect, a robbery was reported at Bank of America on Clark Road in Sarasota. A man matching the description of the first suspect said he had a gun and handed the teller plastic bags to fill with cash. That call was dispatched at 11:29 a.m. and responding deputies located the suspect nearby just five minutes later.

Johnson was arrested and charged with Bank Robbery and Attempted Robbery.
