SARASOTA, Fla. - We're learning more about what caused the fight at the Cheetah Lounge that left one man dead this weekend.

The incident happened just after midnight Saturday night at the Cheetah Lounge strip club on North Washington Avenue.

According to a report from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, the victim, 35-year-old Donald Canary of Zolfo Springs, and two of his friends confronted lounge employee Brad Stanford over what they felt were disrespectful comments Stanford made towards a waitress.

A physical altercation broke out between the patrons and employees, during which Stanford grabbed Canary in a choke hold.  As Canary resisted the hold, another employee held his legs.

Stanford then reportedly told other employees, and the victim's wife and friends, that he would not release the hold until law enforcement arrived.

When deputies arrived, Stanford released the choke hold, but Canary had stopped breathing by that point.  Attempts at CPR were unsuccessful and Canary was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stanford was arrested and charged with Manslaughter.  He is being held on no bond at the Sarasota County Jail.

After this news broke on Sunday, I researched the situation including Googling Mr. Stanford. It appears that he received a very large bonus from his other employer (United Systems in Bradenton) of $63k sometime around the first of this year. This guy actually posted a picture of himself at his $100 dollar bill-wallpapered cubicle smoking a cigar, wearing sunglasses, and lighting the cigar with fake $100's. He actually told how much his bonus was on Facebook. He's going to need everyone of those $$$ and a lot more for not only his criminal defense but also the civil settlement headed his way. I would expand more on my feelings toward Mr. Stanford, but this post would then be deleted. Too much steroids, Roadhouse and MMA.

The Cheetah Club had also better open up their checkbook because every lawyer south of I-4 is salivating at the chance of this slam-dunk lawsuit.

I can not imagine being a skilled professional and not being allowed to help my husband to just have to watch him pass away at the hands of people that
restrained him from defending himself . All the while his wife is helpless in not
only coming to aid , but also , not being allowed to hold his hands or give him
comfort until EMS arrived. How insane is this ? I just can not even begin to
    wrap my brain around this.

Look at how many families , employees on duty that night , friends , and
others that this has effected .
    Including the Stanford family .

Sadly , this tragedy could have been prevented if the staff and employees
at this establishment had handled this situation in a much better professional mannerism.
I SEE A BIG LAW SUIT IN THE MAKINGS !

Thank you in advance for your support in this matter .
    Respectfully
    Susan Croy
