SARASOTA, Fla. - We're learning more about what caused the fight at the Cheetah Lounge that left one man dead this weekend.

The incident happened just after midnight Saturday night at the Cheetah Lounge strip club on North Washington Avenue.

According to a report from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, the victim, 35-year-old Donald Canary of Zolfo Springs, and two of his friends confronted lounge employee Brad Stanford over what they felt were disrespectful comments Stanford made towards a waitress.

A physical altercation broke out between the patrons and employees, during which Stanford grabbed Canary in a choke hold.  As Canary resisted the hold, another employee held his legs.

Stanford then reportedly told other employees, and the victim's wife and friends, that he would not release the hold until law enforcement arrived.

When deputies arrived, Stanford released the choke hold, but Canary had stopped breathing by that point.  Attempts at CPR were unsuccessful and Canary was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stanford was arrested and charged with Manslaughter.  He is being held on no bond at the Sarasota County Jail.
